Use a short, repeatable spelling routine with your own words. Look carefully, cover the word, write it from memory, and compare the spelling before moving on.
When an answer is wrong, pause to compare the two spellings. Which letters changed, disappeared or moved? Study that part before going on. The shorter retry round keeps those words together, with its own score, so a second attempt does not overwrite what happened in the first round.
A spelling check is not a dictation test
This tool shows the word before it is covered; it does not read a word aloud or test an unseen word in context. Add a clue to give the word meaning during the look stage. Use a separate spoken prompt or sentence if you want to test listening and spelling together.
Use paper and screen for the same routine
The printed table has a word column, a writing column, a try-again column and a check box. Fold or cover the first column while writing. Keep sessions manageable for the individual learner. Case and surrounding whitespace do not affect the online check; accents and the entered spelling do.
Questions about spelling practice
Can I retry only the words I missed?
Yes. The completion screen offers a round containing only missed words. The new round has a separate score.
Will my list be saved online?
No. The current list, unfinished edits and lists on My lists stay in this browser. Export a text copy for your own backup; use a share link when you want another person to open the set.
