What stays on your device

The current word list, activity settings, unfinished edits and lists you save to My lists are stored in this browser’s local storage. Activity progress is held in the page while you play. The shelf holds up to 12 lists and does not synchronise across devices or domains. Compatible older saved data in this browser is copied to the current storage keys without deleting the originals. Export and import a text list when moving to another domain. We do not send your entries to a database or use an AI service to process them.

What a share link contains

A share link contains the complete word list, clues, activity and puzzle settings in the part of the address after the # sign. Anyone with the link can read the entries and answers. That fragment is not included in the ordinary HTTP request to the web host, but it is available to the recipient’s browser and can remain in browsing history. This is a practice tool, not a secure assessment system. Avoid including names or sensitive information.

How to remove or keep your work

Clear current list removes the current list and unfinished edits and restores an example. It keeps your saved shelf. Remove individual saved items in My lists, or use your browser’s site-data controls to clear all local data. Undo is available immediately after a shelf removal. Clearing local data does not delete exported text files or revoke links you have already shared. Export a list if you want a separate backup.

Cookies and outside services

The tools use local storage for the functions described above. There are no advertising integrations, payment integrations, third-party fonts or user accounts. Google Tag Manager (GTM-PQX9XDSL) is only loaded on topickite.com after you choose to allow analytics. It can run Google Analytics to measure page visits and improve this website. Google may receive your IP address, browser/device information and the page visited and may set analytics cookies. Analytics is off by default, and you can refuse or change your choice with the Analytics settings button in the footer. Analytics does not load on shared activity links containing URL fragments, and TopicKite does not send word-list entries to Google. See Google’s privacy information at https://policies.google.com/privacy. There is no AI service processing your word lists.

Hosting and request information

TopicKite is hosted by Netlify. When you request a page or asset, the hosting service can process your IP address, request time, requested address and browser information to deliver the website, protect it and operate its infrastructure. This can involve processing outside your country. The operator does not receive your locally saved lists through this process; link fragments after # are not part of ordinary web requests.

See Netlify’s privacy information for the provider’s handling of this data. We do not specify a fixed log-retention period that has not been confirmed for the selected account. If you contact the operator, your message and return address are used to answer your request and kept only as needed to handle it and applicable obligations.

Your educational content

You supply and review word lists and clues. TopicKite does not verify a definition, identify a pupil, or send a study score to a teacher. Shared activities run independently on each device. Use materials you have permission to use, and check clues for accuracy and ambiguity.

Enquiries and your privacy rights

If you email us, we receive your return address, message and any name or attachments you choose to include. The dedicated inbox uses Gmail, so Google handles that correspondence through its email service; see Google’s privacy information. Email is optional and is not required to use the tools. Please avoid pupil names or sensitive information.

We use ordinary enquiries to answer questions and investigate problems, relying on our legitimate interests in running and supporting the service. We handle data-protection rights requests to meet legal obligations. We retain correspondence while dealing with it and where it remains needed to record the resolution or meet applicable obligations, then remove information no longer needed. We do not add enquirers to a marketing list.

You can ask about access, correction, deletion or restriction of personal information we hold about you. Rights depend on the circumstances; locally saved activity data remains under your browser’s controls. Game scores are not used to make legal or similarly significant decisions about you.

Your right to object

You can object to processing based on legitimate interests by contacting the address above. We will consider your request under the applicable data-protection rules.

Privacy complaints

Use the address above to raise a privacy complaint. We acknowledge data-protection complaints within 30 days, investigate and explain the outcome without undue delay. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
